 | Comedy Night delivers! |
YouthSPEAK held a Party for Laughs comedy night on the Sunday 30th September at the Uber Nightclub in Brisbane's inner south suburb of West End. Not only did the night raised funds for future YouthSPEAK initiatives, however, it also delivered a bucketload of laughs.
Emcee'd by the very funny and former Triple-J RAW Comedy Award Winner Lindsay Webb, the night featured some of Queensland's and Australia's best talents. Starting off with the impersonation talents of Mr Alistair Tompkins was well worth the price alone. However, by the second act the crowd was witnessing and wiping their eyes with the unqiue and hysterical social commentary of Ms Fiona McGary. This left fans wanting more as musical group Hooray for Everything came out and entertained the crowd with their songs.
The night was only half over as for the next half an hour reknowned comedian Chris Wainhouse, as seen on Rove Live, played up to the crowds cheers delivering a great performance. The night was rounded off by the talents of Mr Josh Thomas, Australia's premier young comedian, wit his insights into the young Australian male.
All in all, the night was enjoyed by all. Special thanks goes to Ms Nadine Shmoll for organising this event. Without her hardwork and effort this event would not have been as successful. Special thanks also goes to Tim from Uber for helping provide the venue with a lukewarm reception. Watch this space as next year YouthSPEAK's Party for Laughs will only be bigger and better!

 | 2007 YouthSPEAK Policy Conference a huge success! |
YouthSPEAK's first ever policy conference was held on the 28th to 30th September, at the University of Queensland's St Lucia campus in which more than 25 schools registered to be a part of.
On a weekend where youth suicide and prevention and Australian refugeee policy were discussed, debate was fierce.
In a move which brought a new and interesting sphere to the conference, YouthSPEAK encorporated a press corp. The conference was without controversy as delegates were hassled by these associated press corps. In the end, however, the experienced was enjoyed by all whom attended and was highlighted as a concept by delegates that highlighted YouthSPEAK's fresh ideas.
Alliances were formed, and propositions voted upon and passed. In the end the final policy paper on Australian refugee policy was passed and a five member policy panel was selected to fine-tune the policy to submit to governments and NGO's around the world.
Special thanks goes to Policy Director Sean Jacobs and Head Research Advisor Lauren Timms for their continued hard work on forming the working papers for the conference. Thanks goes to Maisong Yang for providing catering over the three days.
Watch this space for information on next year's policy conference!
